This past Friday, March 19th, Gasol Foundation performed their second basketball clinic in Sant Boi de Llobregat, Barcelona, in partnership with the Marianao Foundation’s Vente Pa Ká program (aka VPK). A total of 22 young people between the ages of 15 – 17 years old benefited from the day’s activities.
Sport instruction was led by Joan Montes and José Luis Galilea, former coach and former FC Barcelona player respectively. “The best thing about this sport is that you become part of a whole team with which you develop values such as friendship and respect. You learn from each other and you put all your desire in success. But above all, the key to long-term commitment is enjoying what you do” Joan Montes said at the event this past Saturday.
For two hours, participants had the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of basketball through a series of trainings and activities, as well as to learn about the value of sportsmanship, teamwork, attitude, respect, health and nutrition.
For his part, José Luis Galilea, stressed that “It is important to keep this desire of self-improvement and complement it with discipline and constant effort. When you want to succeed you must go for it, working hard to be with the best ones”.
The clinic marked the beginning of the II Basketball Cup night, a one-night only basketball tournament put on by Vente Pa Ka. The Marianao Foundation organizes healthy nightlife programming for young people for more than 18 weekends per year.
Since 2013, Gasol Foundation has focused its activities and resources on empowering young people to live healthier lives. This basketball clinic serves as one more step forward in the foundation’s commitment to the health of the youth of Sant Boi de Llobregat.
